$1 Haircut

Everything in Cambodia is cheap. I like to tell people how I can get a nice pineapple chicken fried rice, beef stir-fry, pork noodle soup, or even a personal pizza for $3 or less. But I think the best deal here is a haircut. While I was home that was something that I liked to tell people, a few weeks before I came home I got a haircut for $1 and it came out looking perfect, still somewhat long but clean and my head felt cooler. I was so psyched, especially because I think paying $18 plus a $3 tip for a haircut in the US is one of the biggest rip-offs.
My hair had gotten back to the point where it was in my eyes and it was keepin my head to hot so I decided to go back to get my $1 haircut. I didnt see the guy that cut it last time, but some other barber saw me and quickly and excitedly waved me towards his chair. I clearly showed him I wanted him to cut 1 inch all around. Next thing I know he's goin at my hair cutting pretty randomly, didnt even wet or comb it first. At first it looked like he was using some of the normal barber techniques Ive seen before, but as my hair got shorter and shorter I was getting pretty skeptical if this guy had ever cut hair longer then an inch before. It finally got to a point where I realized this dude has just cut off about 3 inches, I looked pretty ridiculous and it wasnt even, the sides had a lot less hair then the front and back. I signaled to him that he had done enough and just to clean up the back of my neck. I paid my $1 and got out of there. I knew I just got a terrible haircut but really all I could do was laugh. This might be a strange topic to write a long post about, but this is the kinda stuff that makes me laugh and I want to try to write a little more about the little things that make my life here so funny and exciting.
Later I even found 2 rat-tails that he musta missed in the back. Dam $1 haircut. Maybe I'll try a $2 place next time.
